CALL OUT: Photographers and Digital Animated Graphic Artists

Are you a photographer or digital animated graphics artist? If so, we have a number of opportunities at LeftCoast for you to get involved with in the New Year. What we’re looking for

We need freelance photographers and digital animated graphic designers to go on our roster where you’ll be selected to work with us on a several projects happening in Blackpool throughout the next three years.

Photographers:

We are looking for enthusiastic photographers who are able to capture people, events, and the community spirit through the lens.

Photos taken of our projects must be able to tell the story from initial plans to a grand finale and will feature across our social channels, in the press, and on our website.

We need photographers to:

  •         Share a keen interest in the arts
  •         Are able to engage with the community
  •         Happy to find out about local creatives working with LeftCoast

These skills are vital so that the perfect shots can be captured of artists and residents at each event.

Photographers will be notified before a booking to check availability. We always try and provide as much notice as possible, however, we work in a process led way with communities influencing all that we do so some things can be short notice. We have a quick turnaround in external communications, so our commissioned photographers will need to meet tight deadlines when filing over their work.

Digital animated graphic designers:

Are you skilled in digital animation? We’re looking for artists to create moving social assets to be shared across LeftCoast’s channels. You must be able to:

  •         Work in a team to come up with design ideas
  •         Present and change designs accordingly to different briefs
  •         Understand LeftCoast’s brand and what we stand for, reflecting this in your work
  •         Create unique and interesting concepts based on LeftCoast projects

We need people with an artistic flair and an eye for detail who can produce high quality end results when working to tight deadlines. You need to be able to work closely with our Digital Communications & Data Coordinator so that your work accurately reflects our projects and key messages.

All commissions for Digital Animated Graphic Designers and Photographers will be paid.

Projects you’d be involved in

Mereside Launderette: A project stalled by Covid but now fully funded and partners confirmed, will see the creation of a pop up laundrette and community space in Mereside. The space will be co created with architects and a team of community representatives in the autumn with a launch date early of 2022.

Artists in residence: We have artists working in different estates across Blackpool and Wyre. There are new residencies planned for early 2022 in Hawes side. In Flakefleet, we have just finished hosting the Inside Out exhibition at Fleetwood hospital, and will be working on the legacy of artist in residence Gillian Wood and the Fleetwood Trust.

Lightpool: LeftCoast, will be looking to be part of Lightpool festival in 2022 and likely to have engagement work that will need documenting as well as capturing the end results in the festival

SpareParts: SpareParts is one of LeftCoast’s flagship projects, supporting Fleetwood Festival of Transport in creating high quality arts projects with communities in the town, and presenting some of the most dynamic local, national, and international artists alongside the dynamic trucks, trams and transport already on display.

Funding for three years: We have just been granted funding for the next three years from Arts Council England as part of their Creative People and Places programme. In 2022 we will write a business plan that informs what our delivery will be and how we move forward from what we have learned. As a team we hold social purpose as a key value. We work to support people to engage in the arts who wouldn’t normally, we encourage people to consider a new perspective on the every day, and enjoy making people smile.

How to apply

We’re looking to put four photographers and two digital animated graphic designers on our roster. If you are successful, you’ll become one of LeftCoast’s associate photographers and will be given a geographical area or project to follow.

If you think you fit the brief, please send us:

  •         A portfolio of work (at least 7 photos/digital animated assets)
  •         No more than 350 words about your photography/animation experience and why you would like to work with LeftCoast
